May Focus: Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap’s (BTG) programs are designed to meet people where they are.  They offer food, resources, chaplain/prayer support, onsite showers, hot meals, and laundry facilities.  Each week BTG provides pantry services to 750+ families.

IMPACT

There was a 52% increase in new clients over the previous year.  38,489 households were assisted -- 102,672 individual people were served directly; 14,453 hot meals were provided.

Demographics receiving services – The head of 72% of all households is either single, divorced, separated, or widowed; 65% served are female head of households; 62% are working, retired, or are disabled; 18% are actively seeking employment.

BTG NEEDS VOLUNTEERS and DONATIONS. Each $1.00 of money donated equals 12 pounds of food.

  A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers This past Sunday on August 11, 2024, 115 volunteers gathered together in Barrow Hall for a meal packing event for Rise Against Hunger.  Volunteers came together with a shared mission: to combat hunger and provide hope to communities in need. This event was a resounding success, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our incredible volunteers. We packed 14,256 meals!!! In the past 9 years, Newnan Presbyterian Church has packed 130,655 meals and they have provided food to places like Haiti, Sierra Leone, Philippines and Zambia.  Incredible job everyone!!! Faith truly in Action. Their efforts, along with those of many other volunteers, highlight the profound impact that a community can have when united by a common cause. June Focus: Summer of Service

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith.  And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.   During the summer we encourage you to find your Faith in Action. You can serve someone in need; help out in your neighborhood; contact one of our non profit partners or join us in our Care Group for Service. June we will serving Hope Global with a Block Party again this year! We had so much fun playing and eating with the children last year that we are excited to do it again this year! Stay tuned for date and details. Upcoming: Save the Dates July 22-26: Service Project: BTG Summer Lunch Program--we will once again serve lunches to local kids in the CJ Smith park August: we will celebrate Global Missions and highlight Merida, Pura Vida, and Rise Against Hunger is back this year on August 11th during the service!!

Our July English Camp and Construction teams have arrived in Chichicastenango and are preparing for the work week. Travel began for our teams on the 4th of July and included being picked up at the Guatemala City airport in our chicken bus, 'Super Nina' (see photo below), and one night's stay in Antigua. This morning our team enjoyed a tour of Ecofiltro Guatemala.
